Hope Isn't the Problem... Our Commitment Is

My March theme is commitment. At first, I totally wavered on this commitment I made in January to write about commitment.

Ironic, I know.

See, I wanted to talk about commitment in March because I personally believe this is when we are least committed in our year. Or maybe that is just my perception since I live in the cold Midwest.

Don’t get me wrong, but come the end of February, leading into March, my hope is fading fast. If you remember my post from last week, I told you I believe our reason to commit boils down to hope. The hope for better.

But, Minnesota in March is dreary. Outside is no longer white.  It isn't green either.  It is just 50 shades of brown. Cold snaps require more time inside and everyone becoming a little stir crazy and completely annoyed. The, “I’m bored”, syndrome is in full miserable force. Oh, and the weather is...

Ditch the Issues with Committing to Yourself

I typed in the word commitment into Google. Guess what the number three search was? First was commitment definition, then commitment synonyms and then…

COMMITMENT ISSUES

Not really surprising, is it?

We have a lot of commitment issues as a society. But, I don’t think we have anyone to blame but ourselves for our world’s commitment problems. It takes individuals to get a divorce, to quit a job, to skip out on a diet, to not check in on their friends, to always be looking for the latest and greatest.

Get my drift?

You know exactly what I mean. You commit on Monday, starting that diet and exercise routine and by Friday you are drinking beer and eating your third piece of pizza. Or Monday, you tell yourself this week you are going to tackle your cleaning list and by Friday your list has only grown, not shrunk.

We’ve all been there.

The problem is, it's so...

Eat What I Say, Not What I Eat!

You want to talk about insanity?  Insanity is trying to get a toddler to eat brussel sprouts.  Truest form of the definition.

I have a client that I adore. She was telling me how she wanted lunches to go a little smoother with her toddler and preschooler. Every day she would put all this pressure on herself to make lunches and dinners that her kids would eat. The issue was that she always wanted them to check off all of the boxes of being “healthy” (i.e. what experts tell us we NEED to feed our kids so they don't shrivel up and die).

This was causing her stress.

She just wanted her children to eat well and grow strong. I think she believed it was solely on her shoulders and if she didn't follow through; she'd mess up her kiddos.

I asked her, “Did you eat healthy all the time growing up?” She answered, “Well, no. But we know so much...

Why Can't I Have a Marriage Like That?

Want to know something I'm not proud of?

I complain about my spouse.

Yep.  I try not do it too much with other people (i.e. mainly my girlfriends).  My head on the other hand, that’s a different story.

A month ago I created a post on Facebook that seemed to grab people’s attention.  You can find it here.

Today, I want to expand on that post.  Since Valentine ’s Day is just around the corner, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to remind you (and myself) of a few things about marriage.

I'm going to give you a shocker here..... You can’t control your spouse

Nope.

He’s his own being.  He makes his own decisions.  No matter how much you hint, remind, pester and blatantly ask, he gets to decide his own actions.

I know this is a hard pill to swallow.

Oh, I get it ladies.  This...

Are You Prepared for Lifelong Weight Loss?

A year and a half ago I tried Keto. It was awesome! I got to eat as much avocado, peanut butter and coconut oil my heart desired.   It was a dream came true.

Until it wasn’t.

I started in May. May was great. The kids were still in school, I had a routine and there weren’t very many celebrations to contend with. Then summer hit. The lure of ice cream treats or a cold brew at the end of an evening was too much. All my head could think about was how I was going to hit my macros just right so I had a few extra carbs just to have a lick of something sweet.

My mind started to become consumed. “Did I hit my fat goal for today?” “I had those blueberries. Maybe that was too many carbs. What if I kicked myself out of keto?” “Actually, maybe I have a few carbs left and I can eat this extra portion of veggies. Oh, those fresh strawberries...

How to Become a More Confident You

Confidence.

Ha

Let me share something with you. I was a hesitant and shy girl growing up.

Confidence was something I only dreamed about. I had NO idea what it felt like. To me, it meant, putting on a mask of self-assurance in hopes that people would like me.

When I looked around at the people that I thought were confident, I saw women that walked in this world with ease. They didn’t care what people said about them.

Oh, how I longed for not caring about other people’s opinions! I wanted that confidence.

Honestly, looking back, I was an unconfident mess growing up. Whenever a decision was to be made, I just took what other people told me I should do or what they said I was good at, and went with that. One thing I was really good at... looking like I knew what I wanted and what I was doing.  But the whole time I would be scanning the people around me...

Can I Appreciate Discomfort?

Do you remember when you were pregnant?

I do.  And my word is, “Ugh.”  I want to apologize to the ladies who have either (a) not been pregnant or (b) loved being pregnant.  To those ladies, let me paint the picture of my pregnancy (to some of you who also had horrible pregnancies, you can totally skip this part because you know what I’m talking about here).

It started at 4 weeks.  Yep, I knew instantly when I was pregnant because the, “I only want to sleep FOREVER” and “Oh my goodness, that smell makes me want to vomit” started.  Those two only intensified from there.  Getting out of bed was like trying to get slime out of carpet…slow and almost impossible.  Plus, who really wants to get out of bed when you know you are going to just vomit or feel like vomiting the rest of the day.

No, this...
