A Groundbreaking Approach to Weight Loss

Shut-up and listen.

Nope. Not to me.

To your body and your mind.

Did you know that God gave us the perfect tool to help us know when our bodies need fuel?

It also has this fantastic feature that alerts us to the time when we should stop.

It’s highly sophisticated, using multiple messengers in our body. Yet, it is amazingly simple.

We’ve had it since birth (it’s innate). And, it has worked well for thousands of years, until recently.

But all of a sudden, very few people listen to it anymore.

Yes, I’m talking about hunger.

Instead of listening to our BODIES, now we follow books, videos, friends, or our thoughts and feelings. We use these to determine when and what to eat and when to stop eating.

Since we’ve haven’t been using our hunger to signal us to eat or not, we’ve miscalibrated it.

It doesn’t measure right anymore.

Our “hunger” now tells us to eat when we feel frustrated. Our “hunger” tells us to eat when we’ve just consumed food. Our “hunger” keeps rumbling when we’ve already had PLENTY of fuel.

Here is my groundbreaking tool for weight loss… calibrated hunger; rebooting our hunger to its original form.

How?

Well, first, we need to remove the unnecessary junk from our bodies. We can stop giving it signals from processed food that tricks our bodies into thinking it needs more food.

Step One: pick foods closer to God’s hand than man’s.

Next, we need to clean up the hard drive of our brains. There are a few “viruses” that the enemy has planted in that mind of ours. We have the tool of free will to start deleting the lies and deception those “viruses” are spreading. Some of them sound like….

This won’t work.

Nothing works. I’m not good at this. I’m destined to just be overweight forever. I’m just too fat. I just love food too much. I can’t stop eating sweets. There is no way to conquer this. Nobody understands. I’m so ashamed of how I look….

And so on.

These just create more desire for food in our brains and keeps us stuck. It makes it harder for us to say no to the chips and yes to the carrot. “No” to the pan of brownies and “yes” to feeling lighter and more energized.

These lies tend to sound true (remember that Satan talks in half-truths) and sometimes helpful, but they’re not. The enemy comes to kills, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).

Step Two: Take captive of our thoughts and make them obedient to Christ and dwell on God’s truth instead (2 Corinthians 10:5, Philippians 4:8).

Lastly, (but actually firstly), we start being intentional about how we use our operating system again. We still have a drive, a desire, for pleasure in our lives. Food is just a poor filler of this. The pleasure from food doesn’t last long and usually ends up have negative consequences long term.

So, where do we get the lasting pleasure that provides positive consequences long term?

God.

Our hunger drive was meant to fuel our relationship with Him. We are to hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matt. 5:6), not food. Our desire for pleasure was to be found in God (Isaiah 58:11).

Here is my “new” GROUNDBREAKING approach to weight loss.

  1. Fill our desire for pleasure from God.
  2. Eat foods closer to God’s hands than man’s.
  3. Take captive of the thoughts the enemy has deceived us with and replace them with God’s truths.

What do you think?

Crazy right?

Maybe crazy enough just to work….
