How to Lose Weight God's Way

Losing weight and gaining confidence to embrace the woman God made you to be is possible when you invite God into your weight loss journey.

You have been on the battlefield with weight gain for years.

You’ve tried so many diets you feel doubtful that there is a diet out there that can actually help you lose weight AND keep it off.

The insecurities your weight causes overflows into every area of your life and seem to put a dark cloud over your self-worth.

You feel like you are at your wit’s end and you’re just not sure what to do.

So, how can you get rid of those unwanted pounds and boost your health and confidence?

It’s much easier than it sounds when you are partnered up with God.

4 Biblical Ways to Lose Weight God’s Way

Prayer

Prayer is the most powerful resource you have to support every area of your physical and spiritual life. So, why is it that this foundational element of success is often overlooked when it comes to your personal weight loss and health journey?

If it’s been overlooked in the past, allow today to be the first step toward change for you.

The Bible is packed with scriptures encouraging prayer and examples of how prayer has opened doors that would have otherwise been impossible to open.

Prayer doesn’t only apply to areas of life you feel to be life or death.

God invites you into relationship and communication with Him for EVERY area of your life … including your weight loss journey.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

“Casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Does your battle with your weight and health weigh you down?

Are you tired of carrying around the guilt and shame you have connected to your weight?

Is your weight something you care about?

If you answered yes to these questions, these scriptures apply to you.

God cares about you AND He cares about the things you care about.

God desires a relationship with you, and he wants you to bring your innermost feelings and needs to Him.

He's big enough and powerful enough to handle anything and everything you take to Him in prayer.

Faith

It takes a measure of faith to take your cares to God. There is another level of faith God wants you to have when you bring your heart to him in prayer.

In the Book of Luke there is a story of a Centurion soldier who approached Jesus to request healing for one of his servants. In this request the Centurion tells Jesus that he does not have to physically go to the servant because if Jesus just says the word, he knows his servant will be healed.

“Jesus heard this and was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following Him, He said, ‘“I tell you, I have not found so great a faith even in Israel!”’ Luke 7:9

The Centurion had enough faith to know healing was possible for his servant. He also had a faith that went beyond “just knowing.” His faith took him to Jesus with a very specific request and an understanding that his servant could and would be healed at his request.

You have faith. Having faith isn’t your struggle.

Having faith that there is healing for YOU in this area of your life is where your faith needs strength.

You have faith something is possible for someone else.

You even have faith to believe that your prayers can touch God for circumstances perceived to be of a “higher spiritual” nature.

However, you often leave yourself and your needs out of your realm of faith because of your perception of your importance and the perceived importance of your needs.

Take a lesson from the Centurion. He didn’t categorize himself, his needs, or even his servant’s needs as outside the realm of possibility for Jesus to handle.

He simply knew if he asked … it would be done.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7 - 9.

Take Action

Once you take your weight loss journey to God and get that mustard seed of faith that He can and will help you in this area of your life, there is another step that is often overlooked.

The action step.

God is all-powerful and can do anything.

While this is a fact, it doesn’t mean you wait around for the pounds to melt off.

This is an important time for you to begin taking steps to help yourself on this journey.

There is scripture that tells us that one person plants the seeds, another person waters the seeds, and God makes the seeds grow and produce.

The first two steps in the process of the seeds' productivity involved a person taking action.

God is sure to help you find the best way for you to lose weight and get your health on track, but first, you must take action.

What does action look like?

You reading this blog is a great sign you are moving toward action.

You being willing to gather weight loss support and resources is a great step of action.

Activating what you learn from those supports and resources are powerful action steps.

Keep Going

There’s a reason weight loss is called a journey.

It’s because a journey isn't a short flight where you board at 2:00 p.m. and land at 5:30 p.m.

We all wish it was, but it simply is not.

It’s a process and in that process there will be moments that bring joy and moments that bring despair.

The important reminder to keep at the forefront of your heart on this journey is that no matter what a single moment looks like, you MUST keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.

Yes, this is another element easier said than done.

God does give hope for you on your journey lows.

"My gift of undeserved grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak." So if Christ keeps giving me his power, I will gladly brag about how weak I am.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

This scripture is a great reminder that when you are at your weakest, or just feeling like you are weak, God’s strength is made perfect.

The weaker you feel, the stronger God is. And with Him, all things are possible.

You are more than able to reach your weight loss goals.
