Part 14: Losing Weight is NOT Selfish

We’ve finally arrived!

Tis’ the season to practice the gift you already practice all year long … the gift of GIVING!

Except, this year, I encourage you to make a little tweak to your gift giving experience and make sure to add one more very important person to your list!

Who might this very important person be?

Well, it’s YOU!

Yes, I said you!

You make a lifestyle out of caring for those around you. Your spouse. Your children. Your family. Your friends. Your church. Your community.

You boldly and bravely take on the responsibility of caring for and giving to others… and that isn’t a bad thing. However, I do want to capture a destructive lie that wraps around the minds of giving women everywhere.

The lie that sends the message that investing in yourself with your time and finances is Self-Centered.

That, ladies, is a complete and utter lie.

Not only is it a lie, but it does also not align with the Word of God.

You are a beautiful Creation of the King of Kings. When He designed you, He had a very specific plan for the woman you are to be and the mission you are to complete. Not only did He design you, and form you in your mother’s womb, He has numbered the very hairs on your head and cares about every single piece of you that makes you … YOU!

If your Creator cares that much about you, please know, taking the time, energy, and finances to take care of His Creation is NOT self-centered … it’s actually necessary so you can thrive instead of just “survive.”

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

So, why is it that you find it so easy to sacrifice to care for others and time and time again place yourself on the back burner?

It all has to do with perspective.

As women, we are naturally inclined to care for and about others. As we go along our journey in life, that inclination is reinforced in society. However, what isn’t taught and enforced is the importance of caring for your own mental, physical, and emotional health. It’s so outside of the “norm” it can be seen as frivolous. And, of course, if you view something as frivolous, you are less likely to place value on the investment.

Investing your time, talent, and treasure back into yourself is not a frivolous venture. It’s truly an investment. The more energy you have, the better you feel, the sharper your mind is, the healthier your temple is … the stronger you will be in leading the life God is calling you to live.
